David Huntoon


David Huntoon is a Member of the Spectrum Group in Alexandria, Virginia, where he is the team leader for Spectrum Leadership Advantage, an executive leader development business. He has unparalleled experience in leadership development programs for the US Government and for many programs in the corporate and higher education sector.

Prior to working at The Spectrum Group, David was a Lieutenant General in the US Army who completed his career as the Superintendent of the US Military Academy at West Point. He also served as the Director of the US Army Staff in the Pentagon, as the Commandant of the US Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and as the Deputy Commandant of the US Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

As an infantry officer, David served in a series of command and staff assignments in the United States, Germany, Korea, and the Middle East. He has a BS in Engineering from the US Military Academy at West Point, an MA in Government from Georgetown University, an MMAS from the US Army Command and General Staff College and served as a National Security Fellow at Stanford University.

David serves as a strategic coach and consultant to leader development, strategic planning, and human resource programs for the US Government and in the private sector. He guest lectures on leadership, strategic thinking, and national security strategy as a Senior Fellow at the Center for Excellence in Public Leadership at George Washington University, as a Professor of Practice and Executive in Residence with Washington University at Brookings, and at other public and private sector professional organizations worldwide. Among over seventy keynote speeches his audiences have included the Canadian, Royal Jordanian, Chilean, Indian, and Pakistani War Colleges; the Australian, Afghani, and Spanish Military Academies; the American Society of Civil Engineers, Hiscox, The Registry, US Transportation Command, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the Department of Health and Human Services, the US Department of Agriculture, and the Social Security Administration. He has conducted interviews with major global media networks, including Bloomberg, Fox News, CEO Magazine, the Federal News Network, and the Atlantic Council.

David is a Director on the Board of a small business certification program for veterans that is affiliated with Georgetown University, He served as a Trustee on the Board of the American Public University System, as a Member of two Presidential Boards of Visitors, and on the Board of Trustees of the Naval Postgraduate School. He is the recipient of the 2016 American Psychological Association Robert Yerkes Award for contributions to military psychology.
